Snowpack stability

The snowpack is only moderately well bonded on some steep slopes; otherwise well bonded in general.

Likelihood of triggering

Triggering is possible, primarily from high additional loads, particularly on the indicated steep slopes. Very large natural avalanches are unlikely.

Stability

LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON Triggered avalanches:* slide under skis in the humid surface snow. While cutting a steep slope, above 2700/2900 m. Size 1.* small wind slab still possible (but very rare). Very steep N-facing high mountain slopes, above 3200/3400 m, may still have some dry snow. Monitor changes in snow quality over short distances. Spontaneous releases: rare isolated and superficial releases (pear-shaped) in humid snow after warming. Mainly N/NE slopes above 2800/3000 m. Size 1 (small).

Snow quality

Snow cover: deficient for the season following the recent heat episode. Skiable limit: around 2200 m in the North, 2700/2800 m in the South on gentle slopes. Snow quality: poor refreeze upon waking below 3000 m, better above. Recent snow is crusted upon waking on all slopes/all altitudes. With the sun, it softens and quickly becomes sticky/heavy. Only on very steep northern high mountain slopes (like the north face of Tsanteleina) can we hope to find some cold snow.
