EAWS Lawinengefahrenstufe 2

Mässig

Gefahrenstufe

Beachten Sie Auslaufbereiche.

Stabilität

A minimal amount of precipitation has affected the snowpack in the past 24 hours. This was not much, about 6mm of rain. This was enough to weaken the surface snow but not enough for total saturation. The snowpack has stabilized since the last storm cycle, with weaknesses consolidating and becoming stronger over time. This stabilization has helped eliminate the instabilities caused by new snow during the last storm. At lower elevations, the snowpack is continuing to erode, leading to rising snowlines, which is typical for spring. Spring hazards are increasing. Waterfall holes and flowing water beneath unstable snow in gullies. These holes are especially dangerous in the spring and are predominantly found in lower-elevation gullies. Ice falls have also been reported near Turoa, with similar conditions observed in other areas. This unpredictable hazard is more likely during the warmest part of the day or rapid warming events. Glide cracks are present, creating hazards below breakovers and often being difficult to see when descending quickly. The threshold is around 1900 metres in elevation.

Schneequalität

No avalanche activity has been reported or observed over the past 24 hours.

Wetter

Friday the 6th of November will have rain, possibly heavy and thundery, from the afternoon. The winds are light northerly overnight, increasing and becoming moderate during the day. The freezing level is about 3000 metres elevation. A humid northerly flow covers New Zealand today ahead of a low-pressure system approaching the country from the Tasman Sea. Tomorrow, the low and its associated front move over the country, and by the end of the day, a second low is located just west of the country.
